About

I study how music education can support human development and sustainable excellence across educational and professional pathways. My work is situated in close dialogue with distinguished international scholars across interdisciplinary fields, contributing to the advancement of sustainable futures for music education and the music industry. I have led internationally funded research projects for nearly two decades, publish widely in leading journals and academic presses, and hold global leadership roles.

I am regularly invited as a keynote speaker and expert adviser for funding bodies, international peer-reviewed journals, and educational and professional development programmes, and I serve as opponent and pre-examiner for doctoral dissertations internationally. I have received multiple awards for research excellence. Alongside academia, I have worked as a performing cellist, recording artist, and studio teacher.

I currently hold a permanent position as University Researcher at the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki (Finland), where I am also Docent in Music Education, and I am an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne (Australia). At present, I am leading The Politics of Care in the Professional Education of Children Gifted for Music project (Research Council of Finland, 2022–2027).
